FH JOANNEUM Magazine Project
Developed as part of a seminar at FH JOANNEUM, this project tasked each student with designing a editorial spread for a magazine profiling alumni and their post-graduate achievements.
This specific spread features the Elevate Festival—an annual event based in Graz that seamlessly fuses contemporary design discourse, critical discourse, electronic music, and club culture.
The core design challenge lay in balancing dual identities: the layout needed to strictly adhere to the magazine's overarching grid and typographic system while simultaneously capturing the distinct, high-energy visual essence of the festival itself.
In this multimedia project, we examine how the Thonet Chair No. 14 achieved its iconic status. We pay particular attention to its distribution by the Thonet company and its revolutionary manufacturing process using wood bending technology.
In collaboration with the brand Dogdays of Summer, the shoot highlights the dialogue between vintage curation and contemporary identity, showcasing how the next generation reinterprets the past to define their own future.
As my final thesis project at Ortweinschule Graz, this work Integrated every stage of production—from initial concept and planning to photography, post-production, and editorial layout.
We then consider its appearance in numerous Viennese coffee houses and its impact at the time, as well as its relevance today.
Furthermore, we explore what exactly constitutes sustainable design and how a piece of furniture from the 19th century managed to remain so present. Finally, we address the question of how to properly preserve such antique furniture.
